Spotify Moving Headquarters to 4 World Trade Center, Governor Says

Spotify's new office will take over a positively enormous 378,000 square feet within the skyscraper, and is expected to open in 2018.

Spotify's move joins a growing number of media and tech companies that have migrated to the WTC and Lower Manhattan, including Conde Nast in the neighboring One World Trade Center.

Spotify is expanding its footprint in New York City and adding many more jobs to fill its brand new offices.

The world's leading music-streaming company is headed to the World Trade Center. The program encourages businesses to expand their presence in NY.

Spotify agreed to move its 832 existing New York City employees to the building and create 1,000 new jobs, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Silverstein executives announced today.

"Where in the world can you really find the technological talent and the richness of the music tradition in NY?" said Horacio Gutierrez, Spotify's general counsel.

Gutierrez said the new positions would include engineers, marketers, analysts and other tech-related jobs.

The company also will be getting up to $11 million in rent-reduction credits.

Headquartered in Stockholm with offices scattered around the world, Spotify already occupies considerable real estate in Manhattan's Flatiron District.

Cuomo also picked a range of songs with New York themes including Empire State of Mind by Jay Z and Alicia Keys, U2's Angel of Harlem, Bob Dylan's early song Talkin' New York and the original version of Downtown Train by Tom Waits. In the United States, subscriptions to Spotify and its rivals more than doubled past year alone.

To celebrate the move, Cuomo released his own Spotify playlist, which features lots of Billy Joel.
