European Parliament adopts draft reform of carbon market post

The European Union's parliament has approved a landmark free-trade deal with Canada.

The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), nearly eight years in the making, has been a hard process and there's still some details to be worked out.

Thinktank VoteWatch Europe tweeted that the group was divided over CETA, with Socialist MEPs from Belgium, France, Ireland, Poland, Latvia, Bulgaria, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovenia voting against the deal. Opposition to the deal, and similar ones like the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), has been growing among public and professional bodies, who argue that these deals will hinder standards on products and markets as well as on climate and environmental policies adopted in the EU.

Guy Verhofstadt, the leader of the EU's ALDE liberal group, said this is a great deal, particularly in the face of the US pulling out of the Pacific negotiations and talk of trade tariffs. Some of the more controversial aspects, including a much-derided investor court system, still require ratification by European Union member states, which could take years.

Stock Jumping Abnormally High: Fossil Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:FOSL)
Nevertheless, the company's product innovation and continued momentum of the Fossil brand has been driving the company's growth. Finally, OTR Global upgraded shares of Fossil Group to a "neutral" rating in a research note on Tuesday, November 1st.

Reuters news agency has reported that backers say CETA will increase Canadian-EU trade by 20 percent and boost the EU economy by 12 billion euros ($12.7 billion) a year and Canada's by C$12 billion ($9.18 billion) annually.

The CETA deal will not remove tariff barriers in the fields of public services, audiovisual and transport services and a few agricultural products, such as dairy, poultry and eggs.

Canada's Parliament is expected to ratify the deal in the coming months. "Trade is a good thing for the world". The adoption of an initial strategy to meet the Paris' objectives is already planned for 2018 and an agreement on targets and measures, including an implementation plan, will come about in 2023 once real time data have been analysed.

The agreement will eliminate roughly 98 percent of the tariffs between Canada and the EU.

Rare rat-related disease shows up in New York City
A total of 26 cases of leptospirosis were documented in New York City between 2006 and 2016, according to the New York Post. Health officials said they are now trying to address the problem, and will be holding a meeting for tenants to solve it.

European Parliament on Wednesday adopted draft reforms of the EU's carbon market post-2020 that aim to balance greater cuts in greenhouse gases with protection for energy-intensive industries. We trust you will do whatever you can to defeat CETA on the floor of the European Parliament.

"We would like to share the following quote from Laudato Si', Para 56:Economic powers continue to justify the current global system where priority tends to be given to speculation and the pursuit of financial gain, which fail to take the context into account, let alone the effects on human dignity and the natural environment".

Should the BSP emerge sufficiently strongly after Bulgaria's March 26 2017 National Assembly elections, it would block Bulgaria's ratification of CETA, Ninova said.
